The Croatian Association of Engineers is an association of societies formed by free and voluntary association of single-trade and multiple-trades engineering societies operating in the territory of the Republic of Croatia.  The main axis of such association are the engineering societies of graduate engineers from the field of technical and biotechnical sciences that are the legal and historical successors of the engineering association "Klub inžinirah i arkitektah Zagreb" that was founded on March 2, 1878.  Single-trade engineering societies and multiple-trades engineering societies are grouped together in order to promote and protect the rights of engineers, to improve the engineering profession, to promote the ethics of the engineering profession, to spur technical development and research, and to promote education and scientific and professional improvement of engineers, with an objective of encouraging and reaching an optimum level of technological and economic development, wellbeing, safety, health, environmental protection and quality of life in the society.

From its foundation to the present time, the Croatian Association of Engineers changed its name on several occasions, in accordance with changes of its organizational structure:

from 1878          Club of Engineers and Architects - Zagreb
from 1884          Society of Engineers and Architects - Zagreb
from 1894          Society of Engineers and Architects of Croatia and Slavonia
from 1904          Croatian Society of Engineers and Architects
from 1919          Association of Yugoslav Engineers and Architects - Zagreb Section
from 1940          Society of Engineers
from 1941          Croatian Society of Engineers
from 1946          Society of Engineers and Technicians of the People's Republic of Croatia
from 1953          Association of Engineers and Technician of Croatia
from 1992          Croatian Association of Engineers

Every change of its name also engendered appropriate changes to its rules and by-laws.  These changes are mostly related to the functioning procedures, internal structuring, and scope of work.  However, despite these changes, the following general objectives have remained the same throughout the one hundred and twenty-five years of its existence:

·          gather together and unite all technical forces for the common benefit and general wellbeing,

·          promote and protect interests of the engineering branch taking at that care to protect and improve economic situation, social standing, working conditions, and the repute and honour of engineers in public life,

·          promote ethical behaviour in the engineering branch,

·          encourage and endorse education and the advancement of its members in both research and professional activities,

·          create preconditions favouring an optimum technological and economic development in Croatia,

·          preserve natural environment and advocate sustainable development practices.
