Visit Procedures

Accreditation visits are carried out by the individual engineering institution under license from the Engineering Council. Each institution has its own procedures but typically carries out the following:

  1. The higher education institution requests accreditation from an institution.

  2. The institution decides if it is competent to accredit this course (is it a relevant discipline?)

  3. The higher education institution submits documentation eg, syllabus, contact hours, staffing etc

  4. The Accreditation Panel carries out an initial assessment of the written submission.

  5. Visit: typically 1½ days to look at facilities, interview staff and students and assess written work.

  6. The Accreditation Panel writes their report and check with the higher education institution for factual accuracy.

  7. A recommendation is made to the Engineering Institution Accreditation committee.

  8. The Accreditation committee agrees a decision.

  9. Accreditation is for a maximum of 5 years.

  10. The higher education institution must advise of any significant changes.
