MISSION OF ORDEM DOS ENGENHEIROS

OE defines engineering as “the application of science and technology in the different engineering branches (currently grouped in twelve colleges: civil engineering, electro technical engineering, mechanical engineering, mining engineering, chemical engineering, naval engineering, geographical engineering, agronomic engineering, forestry engineering, metallurgical and material engineering, informatics engineering and environmental engineering) in activities of research, design, study, planning, manufacturing, construction, production, inspection and quality control, including co-ordination and management of these and other related activities”.

The practice of the profession of Engineer in Portugal needs a  compulsory registration as member of Ordem dos Engenheiros.

Ordem dos Engenheiros is a non profit Institution, created in 1936, for granting the title of “Engenheiro”, the professional title in Portugal for Engineers, and regulates the Engineering practice of its members.

Ordem dos Engenheiros has the responsibility to award qualification titles (Senior and Conselheiro) and expert titles (Especialista).

Any of these titles are closely linked to post-graduate education. With this objective OE, promote and facilitate their members’ access to credible Continuous Training courses and support Seminars and other events for the professional improvement of their 30.000 members.

Ordem dos Engenheiros has implemented in 1994 the Accreditation System for Engineering Courses in Portugal. Today Ordem dos Engenheiros  (OE) has a global perspective of the various higher education systems teaching engineering in Portugal: public and private universities, polytechnic and military colleges and has many contacts to exchange informations with other countries about Engineering subjects.
