International
Engineers Meeting, New Zealand (June 2003)
Developments in International Recognition
There are good signs of a growing international consensus on the requirements of professional engineers, and the UK and Germany are at the heart of developments. Both were represented at a week-long series of meetings in New Zealand in June 2003.
Delegates representing 21 countries, and two major groups (EMF and APEC) reviewed progress in strengthening the Washington Accord and associated international agreements. There was much commonality of approach over defining types of engineers and the criteria for engineers’ formation – the outcomes from these discussions can be fed back into ESOEPE. In particular, guidelines for international monitoring of accreditation and the graduate output statements against which equivalence will be measured were developed.
